Power Supplies
Battery backed up power supplies enable a system to continue functioning properly in the case of failure of the primary mains power source. UK Health & Safety law requires all fire alarm control equipment to have battery backed power supplies. Tann`s range of boxed 24-28v DC power supply units are designed to be universal power sources for fire systems and ancilliary equipment, and can be used as direct replacements for older Tann charger/power supplies. They can be used whenever a 24 volt "uninterruptable" power supply is required, and are avaliable in a choice of power ratings and cabinet sizes to suit the powered equipment and required standby times.

Capacity Formula
In order to meet British Standard guidelines, the correct capacity of battery needs to be chosen. This is achieved using the following formula:

Where:
Cmin is the minimum capacity of the batteries when new, at 10 hour discharge rate and 15°c.
T is the required standby period in hours according to BS5839.
Ia is the standby load in amps of the system/equipment.
Ib is the full load in amps of the alarm devices (sounders, bells, strobes).
Ic is the panel alarm load in amps with 25% of zones in a fire condition, or a minimum of 2 zones plus any other equipment (relays, etc) that is activated by an alarm condition.
