Hochiki Beam Detectors
Beam detectors are ideal for smoke detection within large areas such as warehouses, theatres, halls, etc, where conventional point detection is impractical or more costly. Because of their discreet design they are often used in places where architectural considerations are of importance.
The Reflective beam smoke detector consists of a wall-mounted reflector plate that faces a unit containing the Receiver & Emitter in one. It triggers a fire condition when the beam becomes obscured by smoke. The maximum distance between the plate and the detector is 30 metres.
For longer range detection, the 100m Detector consists of a wall-mounted emitter and receiver that face each other and convey a near-infrared beam. The receiver triggers a fire condition when the beam becomes obscured by smoke. The maximum distance between the two units is 100 metres and the smoke alarm threshold can be set to suit individual requirements.

Installation & Location
Detectors should be located at a maximum of 7.5m from a wall and with a maximum of 15m between sets. Mounting height should be more than 80% of the ceiling height and more than 2.7m above the ground. The path between the emitter and receiver/detector unit and reflector plate should be permanently unobstructed and greater than 1m in diameter.
Beam alignment is initially achieved optically via sight holes that are viewed from the side of the detector. Once aligned, the reflective unit automatically sets up its reciever sensitivity, while the two-part system requires manual adjustment during commissioning. Both units will automatically adjust the sensitivity to compensate for dirt build-up on the lenses or gradual changes in atmospheric conditions.
The 100m Beam Detector (P11451) is supplied with mounting plates that fit onto British Standard double-gang electrical back boxes. The boxes must be at least 40mm deep and may be flush or surface mounted. Two cores are required interconnecting the emitter and reciever in addition to the zone wiring.
The 30m Reflective Beam Detector (P11840) is surface mounted via its own specially designed back box (P11906 – sold separately). The unit is self contained requiring only connection to the detection zone.
Full installation, setup and testing instructions are included with each set of beam detectors.
